A Month-by-Month Lawn Care Schedule for Pune

A healthy Pune lawn follows the seasons. This month-by-month schedule tells you exactly when to water, feed, aerate and mow through summer heat, the monsoon and the cooler winter.

Why a Pune Lawn Care Schedule Follows Three Seasons

Pune's year breaks cleanly into a hot dry summer, a wet monsoon and a mild winter, and your lawn needs completely different care in each. Watering that keeps grass alive in May would drown it in July.

Working to a calendar stops the two most common problems we see: lawns scorched by under-watering in summer, and lawns lost to weeds and fungus because they were neglected during the monsoon rush.

Summer: March to May

This is the survival season. Grass is under heat stress, so the priority is deep, early-morning watering and never cutting too short, because longer blades shade the soil and hold moisture.

Avoid heavy fertilising in peak heat, which can burn stressed grass. Keep the mower blade high and let clippings lie occasionally to protect the roots.

  • Water deeply in the early morning, ideally daily in April and May
  • Raise the mower height and mow less often
  • Hold off on strong fertiliser during peak heat
  • Spot-water dry patches before they turn brown

Monsoon: June to September

Rain does the watering, so switch off irrigation and focus on control. Grass grows fastest now and needs mowing every week to ten days to prevent thatch and weeds taking over.

Waterlogging invites fungal disease, so improve drainage on low spots and pull weeds while the wet soil makes them easy to lift. This is the ideal time to aerate and to fill bare patches.

  • Turn off irrigation once the monsoon sets in
  • Mow every 7 to 10 days to control overgrowth
  • Aerate compacted areas and improve drainage on puddling spots
  • Weed regularly while roots pull out easily in wet soil
  • Apply a balanced feed early in the monsoon for strong growth

Winter: October to February

Cooler, drier weather slows growth and gives you the year's best-looking lawn. Reduce watering to a couple of times a week and drop mowing to roughly every two weeks.

This is the season to top-dress, overseed thin areas and apply organic manure so the lawn goes into the next summer strong. Early morning dew usually covers much of the watering need.

  • Water two to three times a week as evaporation drops
  • Mow roughly every two weeks
  • Top-dress and overseed bare or thin patches
  • Apply compost or organic manure for the season ahead

Frequently Asked Questions

Daily deep watering in summer, none during the monsoon, and two to three times a week in winter. Always water in the early morning so blades dry through the day and disease risk stays low.
