A good landscape is not designed on the spot; it moves through clear stages from first conversation to final handover. Understanding this process helps you brief your designer well and avoid costly changes later.

Whether you have a compact Wakad balcony or a Mulshi farmhouse plot, the same broad steps apply, only the scale and timeline change.

Stage 1: Site visit, brief and survey

Everything starts with a site visit. The designer measures the space, notes sun and shade, checks soil and drainage, and studies how the garden connects to the house.

Alongside the physical survey, you discuss your brief: how you want to use the space, your style preferences, your budget and any must-have features.

Stage 2: Concept and detailed design

Next the designer turns the brief into a concept plan, showing the proposed layout, zones and key features. This is the stage to give feedback freely, as changes on paper cost nothing.

Once the concept is agreed, it develops into a detailed design with a planting plan, materials, dimensions and often 3D visuals so you can picture the finished garden.

Stage 3: Quotation and execution

With the design fixed, you receive a detailed quotation broken down by hardscaping, planting, irrigation, lighting and labour. A clear, itemised quote makes it easy to compare and adjust the scope.

Execution then follows a sequence: site clearing, hardscaping and civil work first, then soil preparation, planting, irrigation and finally lighting and finishing touches.

Stage 4: Handover and aftercare

At handover, a good landscaper walks you through the garden, explains how the irrigation and lighting work and shares a care schedule for the new planting.

The first few months are critical while plants establish, so many Pune firms offer a maintenance package. A full residential project commonly takes four to twelve weeks from design sign-off, depending on size and weather.
